Taking Care of YOU
The only person who can make you successful and productive is you. So far, days 1-14 have been about getting organized, being prepared, and focusing on one thing at a time. Today, we are moving from what we do with our bodies to how we treat our bodies. The way you treat your body and mind is the foundation to how productive you are. Your ability to be productive is so much higher when you feel rested and re-energized.
As a runner, I can relate to this concept. It was only a couple weeks ago that I had put in a long day of work. It was about 7 at night and I knew I shouldn’t run because of how tired I was, but I was bound and determined to push myself anyway. I set out for a run. I pushed myself hard and was sprinting at mile 1.66 when I tripped on the uneven sidewalk and when flying into the concrete. If I had listened to my body when it said it was time to rest, I would have only been out one day of running versus the week I had to take off because of a busted knee. Your body and mind need to take a break, so let them. The more rested you are the more productive you will be.
Take a break from work and set time aside weekly to spend time with your family. Choose one day and make sure you take it off! Spend time catching up on your favorite TV shows, trying new recipes, or heading out of town. It doesn’t matter what it is, just don’t engage in work. Let your heart and mind have a break from the workplace. Let your family and friends fill that time, isn’t that the whole purpose of making ourselves more efficient anyway, to make more time for loved ones?
In the hustle and bustle of life, don’t forget about you. You are what makes your job special. If you are not letting your mind rest, if you are filling your body with unhealthy and non-nutritional food, if all you do is work and never play, then your ability to be efficient and productive are greatly reduced. When you don’t feel productive, your self-confidence goes down, making it even easier for you to procrastinate. They say you are what you eat, and I don’t think they were that far off. Think of it like this. You are as productive as the food you put in your body. You are as productive as the amount of rest you let your body have. You are as productive as the amount of happiness you find in your everyday life.
Make it a day where you put YOU first. You will be able to serve and work so much better for others if you are feeling good, so start caring about you!
Happy Tuesday!
