Eat That Frog | Day 16

No Excuses, Just Actions You have the capability to convince yourself in or out of almost anything. Whether it is to go on a roller coaster, workout, get off the couch, skydive, or be productive, you are the one who determines how much you get done and what you do. As much as people around us can have influence on us, the truth is, we make the final say. Today is all about how you talk to yourself. Spending time being positive about your personal situations will have a huge impact on their outcomes. In your everyday life, it is not about the situation, tasks, or encounters at hand, it is how you react to them that matters.  I have a beautiful friend, Ashley, who the most positive person I know. She comes to every situation good or bad …

Eat That Frog | Day 15

Taking Care of YOU The only person who can make you successful and productive is you. So far, days 1-14 have been about getting organized, being prepared, and focusing on one thing at a time. Today, we are moving from what we do with our bodies to how we treat our bodies. The way you treat your body and mind is the foundation to how productive you are. Your ability to be productive is so much higher when you feel rested and re-energized. As a runner, I can relate to this concept. It was only a couple weeks ago that I had put in a long day of work. It was about 7 at night and I knew I shouldn’t run because of how tired I was, but I was …

Eat That Frog | Day 14

Setting YOUR Standard High This morning’s chapter took me by surprise today. As the weekend came to an end, I found myself looking at my life and thinking about how there is so much more I want to accomplish. Over the last two and a half months I have found my heart to feel very quiet and kind of out of the loop. I know it is just a season, but in all reality, I am the only one who can determine the outcome of my success. And quietness won’t cut it. I traced my problem all the way back to ME. When I realized the problem laid within my own heart, I knew that it was time to take action. My business will only work if I work it. My home …

Eat That Frog | Day 13

Your Key Constraints Everyone should have a set of goals they are working toward, both long-term and short-term. In working toward those goals, you will experience times of motivation and sometimes constraint. What is your big goal? Is it to promote at work? To develop a successful business? To stay at home with the kids? Look at your goal and ask what is holding you back from achieving that. Why haven’t you met your goal already? What is holding you back? The first thing you need to do is to identify what it is that stops you or slows you down from meeting that goal. Once you know what that is, focus all of your energy on conquering that roadblock. No matter what we do in life whether it is professional, spiritual, mental, or personal, there will always be …

It’s All About YOU Today’s chapter is all about YOU! What is it about you that makes you special or unique? What talents or strength do you have that set you apart from those around you? Your talents are unique and yours, and only you have the ability to use them with excellence and make an impact. So what is it that makes you good at what you do? You may be an organizer, an encourager, or a planner. You may have great people skills, excellent communication, or the ability to believe in others. What is responsible for your success today? I am sure there are things you do daily that have a positive effect on those around you. Once you figure out what exactly makes you a cut above the rest, work on making it even more …

Eat That Frog | Day 11

Upgrade your Key Skills Fear of failing often hinders me from stepping up my game and pushing myself to the next level. I know that in order to be the best at what I do, I need to always be working on getting better.  There are times when the fear of failing that step stops me from even trying. There are tasks in my daily routine that would help me be great at what I do, but often I push them to the side out of fear of not doing the job well enough.  I know that if I decided to sit down and face the weak spots head on, I could strengthen them and eventually master them. But that first taste of fear can turn me around 180 degrees and have …

Eat That Frog | Day 10

One Step A few years ago, I decided I was going to start getting healthy. I wasn’t much of a gym fan, so I decided I would start walking. After a couple weeks of walking, my speed got faster, my distance got longer, and I decided it wouldn’t hurt to jog a little. Over the span of several weeks my jogging turned into running, my distance got longer, and before I knew it I became a runner. I had a desire to do a 5k, but never thought I could go from nothing to three miles, I was not cut out for that kind of stuff. The more I ran, the more I could endure. I bought running shoes, running clothes, and a mile tracker. And with each step I …

Eat That Frog | Day 09

The best way to overcome procrastination is to have everything prepared before you get started, something I am personally terrible at. When I start a project it usually is because I had this great idea. Why wait? Jump right in!  So halfway through I find I am missing a few things, and sometimes they are so important that I have to have Mark go to the store and get them. While waiting, I lose my ambition and motivation and then I don’t have the desire to finish the job. Have you ever gone to make chocolate chip cookies, and you just think through your list of ingredients before starting instead of checking to see if you have the items?  Then you come to the last step, the most important step, the chocolate chips and you remember …

Eat That Frog | Day 08

The Law of Three When I began to do this day-by-day journey through the book Eat That Frog, I was overwhelmed at how many tips and tricks there were to get organized. Now on day 8, I am really starting to process the first week, and instead of seeing them as separate steps, I am seeing how they blend together. What has worked for me is writing it down. By writing down all the things I need to do, I feel better about myself and my ability to start my day with my plate not spilling over. Read through these blogs and you will start to see how they are knit together. Each step not a step, but an enhancement on the foundation of making lists and defeating procrastination. Today, we are going to look at the law of three–the three tasks that are …

Eat That Frog | Day 07

Focus on Key Result Areas What is your purpose at your job? What have you been “hired” to do, and what are the results you are trying to accomplish? If you don’t have answer to this, then the chances are good that your ability to perform will be lessened, and eventually failure to perform will lead to the end of that career. It is important to identify the key strengths in your job that you are solely responsible for. What are the things in your job that determine your pay and or advancement opportunities? I want you to make a key list of 5 to 7 things that you are responsible for.  Then I want you to grade yourself on a scale of 1 to 10 on how effective you are …

Eat That Frog | Day 06

The hardest part for me when going through this book is separating my lists from work and home. Since I am a stay at home mom, and I run my business from my home, my tasks lists often are filled with chores, errands, and kids. I feel like my goal in reading this book is to separate myself as a leader and be stronger in my job, so starting today I am going to create two lists. One that is strictly Scentsy, and one that is for my personal life. Today’s chapter is pretty basic, focusing on the A,B,C,D,E’s. What is more basic than the beginning of the alphabet? The more time you invest in panning and preparing your lists, the more important things you will do, thus the more successful you will …

Practice Creative Procrastination Have you ever woken up in the morning and thought, “How in the world am I going to get done what I need to do today?” Or walked into a weekend and thought, “Where is Monday, there is too much to do and not enough time to do it!” The truth is, there is not enough time in a day, a week, or a month to get done all of the things on our to-do lists. Whether it is home projects, business, or schedules, we have a lot of commitments and not enough time. So how do we go about spending our time during the day, and how can we make it so we feel accomplished, satisfied, and efficient?  By procrastinating the things on our lists that just don’t hold enough …

Eat That Frog | Day 04

Consider the Consequences Everything we do has consequences, short term and long term. Today, we are going to look at our goals and see which ones have the greatest impact in our long-term goals. When taking this from a business standpoint, it is important to have an end goal in mind. A long-term goal for me would have been something like Superstar Director, but I need to have goals that are far past that. How many years would I like to have my business? Is this just something I want to do while my kids are home?  For me, this is something I want to do 20 years from now. So how do my short-term goals impact that in the long run?  What are the things I need …

Eat That Frog | Day 03

Applying the 80/20 Rule Do you know that 20% of your daily activities can account for 80% of your results? Meaning, if you focus on your most productive tasks, they can account for 80% of your success, even though it is only 20% of your list. The whole concept of the 80/20 rule is figuring out your most important tasks, or the ones that will yield the most results, and to work on them first. Prioritizing your day to work on the task with the most value first will allow you to be more productive in your day as you work on the other 80% of your less productive tasks. Tracy shares that often two of your ten tasks can be worth the other eight all together. They each might take …

Plan Everyday in Advance- A break down on chapter 2 Action without planning is the cause of every failure. – Alex McKenzie  How do you eat a frog? The same way you eat an elephant: one bite at a time. Can you imagine what it would be like to have to eat a frog? You certainly wouldn’t want to. And the more you would think about it, the less you would want to eat it. Our daily tasks can be the same way, and if we wait too long, we will never get our tasks done. So what we are going to do is break it down by step-by-step so procrastination doesn’t have time to sink in.  The better the plan you have, the easier to overcome procrastination and …
